Our special guest today is Dr Peter Spitzer, aka Dr Fruit Loop, Australia’s most famous and first Clown Doctor. He’s the co-founder, Chairman and Medical Director of The Humour Foundation; the home of the Clown Doctors in Australia. A non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the health benefits of humour. Set up in 1977 with Dr Spitzer’s long time friend Jean-Paul Bell, a trained mime artist and clown.
The pair set up Clown Doctors in hospitals throughout Australia after being inspired and influenced by other clown doctors around the world such as Patch Adams. Clown doctors visit children in hospital, bringing healing laughter to relieve stress and fear and aid recovery. Today Clown Doctors also play a role in palliative care for adults as well as children and include regular visits to nursing homes.
Dr Fruit Loop, can be found wandering hospital corridors around the country dressed in a funny hat and carrying a big bag of magic tricks. His main aim is to infect his patients with joy and laughter. He is also involved in the training of Clown Doctors in health topics and recently visited East Timor to help people who had been through trauma to find their smiles again.
In 2001, Dr Spitzer was awarded the Churchill Fellowship to study the international impact of hospital clown units on the health care system. He also developed “LaughterBoss” training to assist with depression in aged care facilities. He has presented to medical and health professional audiences in Australia, USA and Europe.

DIY Father The choice for a new generation of fathers.
Are you a brand new dad, experienced dad or have just found out that you are going to be a dad? Then, the International Dad channel is the show you want to listen to. Hosted by the 3 directors of diyfather.com, Scott, Stefan and Eric, International Dad presents information, experiences and news for fathers by fathers. Each week the team discusses parenting related topics from a male perspective or interview activists in the field.
Our common goal: help men to become better fathers by sharing insights, tips and stories.
Coffee groups for mums have been around for a long time and women haven been sharing their experiences for decades. Why not fathers? So we would like to help facilitate the sharing of information amongst fathers using the net. Listen to International Dad at www.internationaldad.com and join in!
