Guest:
Wally Bronner

Our Special guest today is Wally Bronner who founded Bronners Christmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth, Michigan in the USA in 1945.  Bronners is known as the world’s largest Christmas store.  A fascinating attraction for all ages, open 365 days a year and visited by millions of people each year.  A fascinating development that Wally shares highlights of a magical wonderland on this call.

Attractions at Bronners include a ½ mile long Christmas lane that glistens with thousands of twinkling lights and a Silent Night Memorial Chapel open for viewing and meditation daily.  Bronner’s features over 50,000 trims and gifts, including Christmas ornaments, artificial Christmas trees, Christmas lights, Nativity scenes, Christmas decorations, collectibles, and more.

Silent Night Memorial Chapel in Austria

Bronner’s replica of the original
developed with special permission from the Austrian government.

On the chapel grounds, plaques with the hymn “Silent Night” in over 300 languages are located along a tranquil, lamppost-lined walkway featuring a “Silent Night” musical score arch and an inspiring life-size Nativity.

“Stille Nacht” (Silent Night), the most beloved and widely known Christmas hymn in the world, has been translated into more languages than any other religious Christmas song.  “Silent Night” music may be heard inside and outside on the chapel grounds.

Bronner’s Silent Night Memorial Chapel, a 56-foot-tall landmark, is nestled on the southern tip of Bronner’s 27 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. It is a replica of the original chapel in Oberndorf/Salzburg, Austria, which marks the site where “Silent Night” was first sung on Christmas Eve in 1818.

In 1990, Oberndorf officials supplied “Stille Nacht” to Wallace Bronner in 33 languages. By the 1992 Bronner’s collection had grown to 100. Guests continued submitting versions, making it possible for “Wally” to present 175 languages to Oberndorf’s Silent Night Museum at the 175th Anniversary Silent Night Symposium at the University of Salzburg. For the 1999 Joseph Mohr Symposium in Wagrain, “Wally” presented the song in over 300 languages. There the governor of the Austrian province of Salzburg awarded “Wally” the Silver Medal for Science, Culture and Religion, which he accepted on behalf of all who contributed to the collection. “Silent Night” has become Austria’s Christmas gift to the world.
