Here is just a little introduction to Father’s Day: in the United States Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd was the driving force behind the establishment of the celebration of Father’s Day. Her father was a single parent raising six children on his own and she wanted to honor and acknowledge his role. Mrs Dodd was inspired by Anna Jarvis’s efforts to establish Mother’s Day. The first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in Washington. In 1966, Lyndon Johnson declared Father’s Day a holiday to be celebrated on the third Sunday of June. However the holiday was not officially recognized until the presidency of Richard Nixon in 1972.
